T-shirts play an important role in today’s culture and fashion. The t-shirt was first designed as an inner garment, but today it has become the most ubiquitous and powerful item in apparel.
As laborers cut their jumpsuits in half to stay cool during warmer months of the year, the t-shirt was born in the late 19th century.
It was rare to see the t-shirt worn as anything other than an undershirt when it was created in the early 20th century. After World War II, it wasn't uncommon to see veterans wearing t-shirts tucked into their trousers, but outside of that, t-shirts were almost exclusively worn underneath proper clothing.
The 1950s saw a number of companies in Miami, Florida begin experimenting with garment decoration, but t-shirt printing was started in late 1900.
Even though graphict-shirts and t-shirt printing were popular in the 1950s and 1960s, they didn't become the powerful messaging platform they are today until the 1970s. The punk movement started and graphic t-shirts became more popular than ever.
Certainly, the t-shirt's fluid nature contributes to its popularity. Today, the t-shirt is considered a casual style staple and funny graphics add extra charm to it.
